Design
The biggest difference between Big Fig and WinkBeds Plus is our commitment to, and focus on, the plus size sleeper. WinkBeds and other competitors have made minor changes to their products to appeal to a plus size demographic.
Our brand and product, however, is designed and built from the ground up for the needs of heavier sleepers. We specialize in plus-size mattresses. We don't offer any other type or firmness level. We intend to remain plus-size experts!
Need proof? The Winkbeds Plus option (“designed for heavy people”) must be selected on a drop down list indicating your firmness preference. The Plus model is merely a change in firmness, not a mattress designed for bigger figured sleepers from the ground up.
We conducted research to identify the most common issues faced by people with bigger figures when using traditional mattresses. These issues included mattress sag, poor support, and sleeping hot. We then designed the Big Fig mattress to specifically address these problems.

Weight Stress Test
At Big Fig Mattress, we’ve developed several special techniques to internally test and validate our mattresses’ performance. We first used these techniques in the R&D phase before launching our mattress to the general public. As you’ll see, the difference in edge support is clear.
We utilized simple, 45 lb., plate weights that are stacked to show the impact and support when up to 270 lbs. of weight is placed on the edge of the mattress.

The weight stress test shows the Big Fig supporting the weight without significant compression. The WinkBeds Plus is compressed significantly, nearly down to the foundation. The foam is flattened and the springs are almost fully compressed.

Foundation
The Big Fig Foundation is one of the strongest foundations available. It has 18 2.5" slats and double center beams.
It also has 2" x 4" blocking in the areas where it's needed most. It is hand built (using only the highest quality materials) by Amish craftsmen just south of our factory in Cleveland, Ohio. The 7” height is ideal for sleepers of all sizes!
The Big Fig Foundation is part of a complete sleep system that lasts longer and supports the weight of two bigger figured sleepers for decades. With Big Fig, you don’t have to worry about a mattress that will sag.
The Winkbeds foundation contains only nine slats and is a standard accessory sold by WinkBeds that is not designed with heavier sleepers in mind. It measures 5” in height, a little short for those on the tall side of Big & Tall!

Edge Support
The Big Fig is constructed with our high density foam rails along the edges to keep you feeling extra supported and secure in bed. We believe that foam quality is the most important factor when it comes to resisting sagging and softening in all parts of the mattress, including the edges.
We use 80 ILD high-density foam on the sides of the bed. This is in contrast to WinkBeds Plus's system of coils that extends out to the edge of the mattress. These coils provide some edge support, but without high-density foam the edges are simply not as strong and supportive as the Big Fig’s.
In our comparison below, we’ve placed 270 lbs. right at the edge of the mattress. The circumference of these weighted plates represents the same amount of pressure as a person who weighs nearly twice that at ~550 lbs. We placed the same weight on both the Big Fig and WinkBeds Plus.
As seen below, the WinkBeds Plus collapses in half under the weight while the Big Fig supports it easily. With our focus on creating the best edge support mattress, the difference is clear. Imagine trying to lift yourself off the edge of the WinkBeds Plus!

Coil Count & Quality
In today’s mattress market, most premium innerspring mattresses use individually wrapped coils such as those shown in the Big Fig Mattress below. Individually pocketed coils allows them to move independently of one another, significantly reducing motion transfer. This means that you get to stay in rem sleep, because you won't feel your partner or pet tossing and turning throughout the night. WinkBeds also uses individually wrapped coils, but only provides up to 858 in their Queen size.
The Big Fig Mattress, however, is constructed with a high coil count comprised of 1,200 individually wrapped coils within a Queen mattress and 1,600 in the King and California King sizes. A high coil count contributes to mattress longevity, but it also allows for better motion isolation. If your partner gets up in the middle of the night or comes to bed late, you won’t feel them getting in and out of bed with a Big Fig. We nearly double the amount of support vs. WinkBeds' mattress.

Foam Quality
In a mattress, high-density and high-quality foam is far more important than the quantity of foam. Foam is what helps provide a medium firm feel in the top layers.
The foams used to construct the Big Fig Mattress are 50% more dense than those used in a standard mattress, including 3 inches of high-density foam cushioning with densities ranging from 1.8 to 2.5 pcf (pounds per cubic foot). Big Fig’s high-density foams were carefully selected to prevent mattress sag and provide consistent comfort and support throughout the life of the product (20 years!).
This is compared to WinkBeds Plus’s 1.5 pcf density foam. Memory foam, a polyfoam of this density may not provide adequate support and could degrade faster over time, leading to body impressions and worst of all– mattress sag. At Big Fig, we believe that foam quality is one of the most important factors when it comes to resisting sagging and softening.
The Big Fig is also hand tufted, which enhances its durability and prevents the layers from shifting over time, whereas the WinkBed Plus is not. Hand tufting is typically used for high-priced mattresses. We believe it is important to accommodate larger people and provide a mattress that will last for 20 years. It is a valuable addition that makes a significant impact.

Published Test Results
Like Big Fig, WinkBeds also had an independent organization test the durability of their mattress, simulating 10 years of use using weights that roll over the mattress. WinkBeds had a constant force fatigue test performed where a 169-lb weight dropped on the WinkBeds Plus mattress over 80,000 times. After the test was done, they had lost 0.27, or 2% compression, of mattress height.
The Big Fig stepped it up a notch, using a Rollator test that cycled a 350-lb weight back and forth across the mattress for 200,000 cycles. After this test was performed, the Big Fig lost only 0.16” of height, which is just 0.01%! Talk about long-lasting durability!

Return Policy
The Big Fig Mattress is designed specifically with plus sized needs in mind and has changed the lives of many serious sleepers in our community. We recognize the complexities of sleep, sleep disorders and serious issues like sleep apnea.
We would be foolish to assume everyone in the plus sized community needs the same mattress. That’s why offer our 120-night sleep trial. If you don’t absolutely love your new Big Fig Mattress, we’ll come pick it up and refund your purchase – it’s as simple as that!
Your body may need time to adjust to a new mattress. We ask that you try it for two weeks before initiating a return. But this is not a mandatory waiting period, and we have no restocking fees, return delivery fees, or any extra charges whatsoever on returns.
If you don’t like your WinkBeds Plus, there is a mandatory 30-day requirement before you can initiate a return. The sentiment behind this is the same as our two-week ask: Sometimes a mattress takes some adjusting to. But if you’re sure we aren’t for you, the Big Fig team doesn’t force you to keep a large mattress in your home for a full month like WinkBeds does!
The Winkbed Plus return policy doesn’t sit well with us. Keeping your money tied up and forcing you to sleep on a mattress that doesn’t work for you - we think that’s just wrong.
