Design
Right off the bat, the biggest difference in design between us and the other guy is our commitment to, and focus on, the plus size sleeper. Plain and simple. We believe in inclusivity and that taking care of this underserved community is our company’s sole mission and the singular reason for the creation of the Big Fig Mattress. While other competitors offer a traditional mattress and simply add minor tweaks and clever marketing, we begin and end our design process with you in mind.
In order to design the perfect mattress, we started with extensive research on what issues plague our plus size friends including poor edge support, shifting materials, sagging, and more. Saatva has seven different mattress variations each with slight differences in design. What’s that saying? “Jack of all trades, master of none”? While Saatva may aim to capture a larger audience, we only have one demographic in mind. We know we’ve designed a mattress from the ground up specifically for a demographic that deserves more than just a slightly modified standard mattress.

Weight Stress Test
The last thing you want is to be awoken from your slumber by falling off your bed. Rest assured (see what we did there?) we've put our mattress to the test so you don’t have to worry about a lack of edge support or any issues in shifting. At Big Fig, we’ve put our mattresses through strenuous weight stress tests and the results speak for themselves.
To test weight stress, we took regular 45 lb. weights and stacked them on top of each other to show what The Big Fig looks like when 270 lbs. is placed on the mattress surface.
Why 270 lbs.? This weight is approximately the same “pounds per square inch” of a person weighing 550 lbs., the Big Fig’s maximum weight capacity per sleeper. This 270 lbs. represents approximately the same “pounds per square inch” of a 550 lb. person sitting on the edge of the mattress.
We tested the Saatva Loom & Leaf against the Big Fig Mattress. The difference in quality between each mattress can be seen in our head to head comparison below.
After placing the weights, the Big Fig showed some compression, but not a significant amount. The Helix Nightfall is compressed significantly, nearly down to the foundation. The foam is extremely flattened when compared to the Big Fig. The Saatva Loom & Leaf page doesn’t contain any information on the weight limit of the mattress and based on that comparison above, it’s easy to see why. With Big Fig, you don’t have to worry about that; we’re the perfect mattress edge support fix.

Foundation
Don’t worry, we put extra care into our foundation as well. Built in our factory just south of Cleveland, Ohio, our foundation stacks up at 7 inches - an excellent height for sleepers of all sizes. As shown below, the Big Fig foundation is one of the strongest foundations available on the market with 18 2.5” slats and double center beams and the added support of 2”x 4” blocking in the areas where it’s needed most.
The Saatva Loom & Leaf has only 7 slats and a single crossbeam and is a standard accessory sold by Saatva that is not designed with heavier sleepers in mind. It doesn’t have a designated weight limit which is not great to see when you’re looking for a mattress for heavier people.

Coil Count & Quality
The Big Fig Mattress is constructed with a high coil count consisting of 1,200 individually wrapped 15-gauge coils within a Queen mattress and 1,600 in the King and California King sizes. A high coil count with a lower coil gauge contributes to mattress longevity, but it also allows for better motion isolation.
The modern mattress market is filled with premium innerspring mattresses that use individually wrapped coils to prevent motion transfer. The Saatva Loom & Leaf doesn’t have any coils at all. It uses an all foam construction which means that you can’t expect longevity or edge support from the mattress. What you can expect is that the mattress will sink in– especially when for heavier sleepers.
With this construction in mind, with Big Fig, you’ll sleep so deeply you won’t even notice when your partner wakes up in the middle of the night for a glass of water.

Big Fig is also a proudly family-owned company located in Cleveland, Ohio where every mattress is made with consistency in the same factory we’ve been making mattresses for four generations.

Warranty
Big Fig has a comprehensive 20-year, non-prorated warranty that includes both mattress and foundation and covers any and all defects in materials or workmanship, visible body impressions greater than one inch, and charges no transportation costs for repair or replacement.
The bottom line? The Big Fig Mattress is guaranteed for 20 years with an unmatched, full repair and replacement warranty at no additional charge.
Saatva offers full warranty for the first 2 years of ownership and then the benefits start to deteriorate. After year 3, if there are any issues that warrant an exchange, you will need to pay a $149 processing fee if you’d like to make an exchange or repair.

Published Test Results
The Saatva Loom & Leaf mattress claims to have long-lasting support but does not publish any test results to the public to support their claim. The Big Fig Mattress, meanwhile, was subjected to rigorous testing at a third party facility with a focus on durability and longevity under heavy weight conditions and has published test results.
We proudly display our tests on our website. For example, the Big Fig Mattress underwent a Rollator test that cycled a 350 lb. weight back and forth across the mattress for 200,000 cycles. Test results showed the Big Fig lost only 0.16” of height, which is just 0.01%!

Return Policy
We typically ask that you give us a try for at least 14 days before deciding if we are or aren’t for you. This gives your body ample time to adjust to your new sleeping setup. But if you decide you don’t like your new Big Fig mattress before the 14 days are up, that’s okay too! We will gladly accept returns and never charge any restocking fees, return fees, or any other charges.
If you aren’t satisfied with your Saatva Loom & Leaf mattress, you can expect to pay a $99 processing fee in order to get your refund. Now that just doesn’t sit right with us.
The Big Fig Mattress is designed specifically with plus sized needs in mind and has changed the lives of many serious sleepers in our community. But even with this accomplishment, we know enough as an established mattress company to face the facts: we would be foolish to assume everyone needs the same mattress just because they have a similar body type. That’s why we guarantee that if you don’t love your new Big Fig Mattress within 120 nights of sleep, we’ll give you a full refund and come pick it up at no charge - easy as that!
