DESIGN
Let’s start with the most important part, the thought behind the design. The biggest difference between Big Fig vs Casper is our commitment to, and focus on, the plus size sleeper. We believe in inclusivity and that taking care of this underserved community is our company’s sole mission and the singular reason for the creation of the Big Fig Mattress. While other competitors offer a traditional mattress and simply add minor tweaks and clever marketing, we begin and end our design process with you in mind.
Now onto the how. We did extensive research on the issues that heavier sleepers typically face with a standard mattress like poor edge support, shifting materials, sagging, and more, and we engineered our mattress to address these issues. We make mattresses for a singular type of customer and we excel at it. We’re experts in helping the plus sized community get better sleep, and we plan to stay that way!
Casper offers five different mattress variations each with its own slight tweaks to a standard design. With different design adjustments, it may seem like Casper is offering a wide range of options, but we aren’t falling for this marketing ploy. We know we’ve designed a mattress from the ground up specifically for a demographic that deserves more than just a slightly modified standard mattress.
Weight Stress Test
When you’re sliding into bed at night, you should not have to worry about whether you’re going to experience any shifting or sagging while you’re trying to get your beauty sleep or if your mattress is durable enough to stand the test of time. At Big Fig, we’ve put our mattresses through strenuous weight stress tests and the results speak for themselves.
To test weight stress, we took regular 45 lb. weights and stacked them on top of each other to show what The Big Fig looks like when 270 lbs. is placed on the mattress surface.
Why 270 lbs.? This weight is approximately the same “pounds per square inch” of a person weighing 550 lbs., the Big Fig’s maximum weight capacity per sleeper. This 270 lbs. represents approximately the same “pounds per square inch” of a 550 lb. person sitting on the edge of the mattress.
We tested the Casper Wave against the Big Fig Mattress. The difference in quality between each mattress can be seen in our head to head comparison below.
After placing the weights, the Big Fig showed some compression, but not a significant amount. The foam is extremely flattened when compared to the Big Fig. The Casper Wave doesn’t provide a weight limit, but still claims to be made for all sizes. If they don’t add a weight limit though, how would someone even know that? With Big Fig, you don’t have to worry about that; we’re the perfect mattress edge support fix.
Foundation
Every foundation at Big Fig is hand-built in our factory just south of Cleveland, Ohio with only the highest quality materials and stacks up at 7 inches - an excellent height for sleepers of all sizes. As shown below, the Big Fig foundation is one of the strongest foundations available on the market with 18 2.5” slats and double center beams and the added support of 2”x 4” blocking in the areas where it’s needed most.
However, yet again, the Casper Wave doesn’t provide information on their foundation. A lack of transparency is never a good sign; especially when it comes to something you’ll sleep on every night.
Coil Count & Quality
The Big Fig Mattress is constructed with a high coil count consisting of 1,200 individually wrapped 15-gauge coils within a Queen mattress and 1,600 in the King and California King sizes. A high coil count with a lower coil gauge contributes to mattress longevity, but it also allows for better motion isolation.
The modern mattress market is filled with premium innerspring mattresses that use individually wrapped coils to prevent motion transfer. The Casper Wave only has 616 coils that measure 6 inches. This is not very good, especially if you’re a larger person seeking a bed with better motion isolation and longevity.
With this construction in mind, with Big Fig, you’ll sleep so deeply you won’t even notice when your partner wakes up in the middle of the night for a glass of water.
Manufacturing
Like Big Fig, Casper mattresses are also made in factories in the United States, which is a great plus. However, the Casper team of manufacturers lacks the 100+ years of experience in quality mattress making that you get with Big Fig.. With years of experience under our belt and high-quality materials sourced right here in the USA, it makes us hard to beat.
Big Fig is also a proudly family-owned company located in Cleveland, Ohio where every mattress is made with consistency in the same factory we’ve been making mattresses for four generations.
Casper manufactures their mattresses in different factories in Pennsylvania and Georgia. Each factory is owned by a different person or entity with each subcontractor able to maximize their profits in their own interests. Their profit motivations can affect the quality of the mattresses they build.

Big Fig has a comprehensive 20-year, non-prorated warranty that includes both mattress and foundation and covers any and all defects in materials or workmanship, visible body impressions greater than one inch, and charges no transportation costs for repair or replacement.
The bottom line? The Big Fig Mattress is guaranteed for 20 years with an unmatched, full repair and replacement warranty at no additional charge whileCasper offers a 10 year warranty on their mattresses. We think the difference here is pretty clear.
Published Test Results
Casper claims to have long-lasting support but does not publish any test results to the public to support their claim. The Big Fig Mattress, meanwhile, was subjected to rigorous testing at a third party facility with a focus on durability and longevity under heavy weight conditions and has published test results.
We proudly display our tests on our website. For example, the Big Fig Mattress underwent a Rollator test that cycled a 350 lb. weight back and forth across the mattress for 200,000 cycles. Test results showed the Big Fig lost only 0.16” of height, which is just 0.01%!

Return Policy
Sometimes with a new mattress, your body may need an adjustment period before you get accustomed to sleeping on a new mattress. We ask that you try our mattress for 14 days and make your decision after that. However, that two weeks is not mandatory and we do not charge any restocking fees, return fees or other charges when you decide to send back your mattress.
If you don’t like your Casper Mattress, they ask that you wait 30 days before returning. The sentiment behind this is the same as our two-week ask: Sometimes a mattress takes some adjusting to.The main difference isthe Big Fig team doesn’t ask you to keep a large mattress you don’t love in your home for a full month!
The Big Fig Mattress is designed specifically with plus sized needs in mind and has changed the lives of many serious sleepers in our community.
