It's smart to invest in the things that separate you from the ground – car tires, shoes, and mattresses. However, it can be hard to know when you need a new mattress, especially if you’re not experiencing discomfort. Many realize the need for a new mattress only after getting one. Once you decide to replace it, you’ll face questions about mattress sizes, thickness, and suitability for plus-size or tall sleepers. We’re here to provide clear answers to your frequently asked questions.

Do I Need a New Mattress?

Knowing when it’s time for a new mattress is key to ensuring a good night’s sleep. Here are some signs that indicate you may need to replace your mattress:

Discomfort or Pain

Waking up with back, neck, or shoulder pain or feeling sore or stiff in specific areas is never a good sign.

Visible Wear and Tear

We’re talking about noticeable dips or indentations where you sleep, along with any rips, stains, or damaged fabric.

Allergies or Dust

More frequent allergic reactions or asthma symptoms, possibly due to dust mites or allergens in the mattress.

Disrupted Sleep Quality

Tossing and turning or difficulty finding a comfortable position or feeling unrested or experiencing insomnia despite a consistent sleep schedule are signs that your mattress may be past its prime.

How to Choose a Mattress Size

While a mattress size comparison all comes down to personal preference which is why we created a quiz to help you find the best sleep solution for your needs. Other considerations when choosing the right fit for you include:

Number of Sleepers

Are you sleeping solo or are you with a partner? Also consider whether or not your kiddos may join you for some slumber night fun!

The Size of Your Bedroom

Measure the dimensions of your bedroom to ensure that the mattress will fit comfortably without overcrowding the space. Leave room for other furniture and adequate walking space. Ensure the mattress size matches the dimensions of your bed frame, including any headboards or footboards.

Preferred Sleeping Position

If you sleep on your side, a larger mattress like a Queen or King can offer more space to adjust and align your body properly. A Queen or King-size mattress can also be beneficial for back sleepers who need extra space for proper alignment.

Body Size and Shape

Larger folks or those who require more space for comfort may benefit from a larger mattress size like a King or California King. If you anticipate changes in body size or sleeping arrangements (e.g., a growing family), consider investing in a larger mattress for future flexibility.

Budget Considerations

Larger mattresses generally cost more than smaller ones. Balance your budget with your size preferences to find the best mattress within your price range.

Other Common Questions & We Have the Answers

Does a queen-size mattress have better support than a king-size mattress?

The level of support a mattress provides doesn't depend on its size but rather on its materials and construction. A well-made queen-size mattress can provide just as much support as a well-made king-size mattress and vice versa.

What is the size difference between a king-size mattress and a California king-size mattress?

California king-size mattresses, you actually lose a couple of inches in width but gain 4 more inches in length, which could make this mattress the ideal choice for taller people

What is the size difference between a full-size mattress and a queen-size mattress?

When considering the size difference, with a queen size, you gain 6 inches in width and 5 inches in length. This might not sound like much, but it definitely can make a difference when considering your sleeping arrangements

What is the biggest size bed you can buy?

While we do not carry this size, we typically see the Alaskan king size mattress to be the largest available on the market measuring at 108 x 108 inches. If you have the space, just get yourself two queens or two king size mattresses and make the Alaskan look puny.

What is the best size for couples: queen vs. king?
