When Should I Open My Mattress In a Box?
When it comes to the timing of unboxing a mattress in a box, open the shipping box within ONE WEEK of receiving it. We like to call it a “bed in a box,” a mattress that’s compressed, plastic-wrapped, rolled up, and shipped to your address in a sturdy cardboard box. Once it reaches your doorstep, you open the box, let the mattress decompress, and enjoy a good night’s sleep.
How to Set Up a Mattress
Before diving into these oh-so-crucial instructions formattresses in a box, understand that unboxing and assembly require two people, so make sure you have backup before you begin.
First, have you assembled your Big Fig Foundation? If not, check out that video, get your foundation squared away, and then come back.
Step 1: If your foundation situation is solid, it’s time to move the mattress box onto the foundation. Because we use high-quality materials, you may be surprised by how heavy the box is. This is where person number two comes in handy.
Step 2: Lay the box on its side and lift it from the bottom to help the mattress slide out. Your mattress will be sealed inside with two layers of plastic folded in half and then rolled up.
Step 3: Then, unwrap the outer layer of stretch film from the rolled mattress. Do not cut this plastic, as you can damage the mattress.
Step 4: You will see the mattress begin to unroll as you start removing the outer layer. Begin to unfold your mattress while it’s still in the second layer of plastic until it’s fully spread out.
Step 5: Once it is fully spread out, position it squarely over your foundation or bed frame.
Step 6: While using the provided tool, carefully cut the plastic around the mattress. As you cut all the way around the mattress, it will decompress and quickly fill to full size.
Step 7: Finally, pull the plastic out from underneath the mattress.
How Long to Leave Mattress After Unboxing
Be sure to wait 30 minutes before you lay on your new mattress. Within a few hours, your mattress will be fully expanded, and you’re all set for a great night’s sleep.
