What Is A Hybrid Mattress?

A hybrid mattress combines the best features of two or more mattress types—typically pocketed coils and foam—to deliver both support and comfort. Unlike all-foam beds that can trap heat or traditional innerspring mattresses that may lack cushioning, hybrid mattresses offer a balanced sleep experience with responsive support, enhanced airflow and pressure relief. Big Fig hybrid mattresses use individually wrapped coils, high-density foams and technology like THERMOGEL COOLING® or LDPE-infused fabrics. The result? A durable, breathable mattress that supports your weight and keeps your spine aligned. Whether you’re a back, side or stomach sleeper, a hybrid mattress like Big Fig gives you stability, comfort and long-term performance all in one.

Why Are Big Fig Mattresses Considered Hybrid Mattresses?

Big Fig mattresses are considered hybrid mattresses because they combine the responsive support of an innerspring system with the pressure-relieving comfort of high-density foam. Each Big Fig mattress features individually wrapped coils that move independently to contour with your body and reduce motion transfer along with layers of durable, high-performance foams that resist sagging and provide lasting structure. This hybrid construction offers the best of both worlds: the lift and airflow of a traditional innerspring mattress and the cushioning and comfort of a foam mattress. It's especially ideal for bigger bodies, multi-position sleepers and hot sleepers who need reliable support, technology like THERMOGEL COOLING® or LDPE fabric and long-lasting comfort. That’s what makes Big Fig a true hybrid and a standout in the world of sleep systems.

What’s The Difference Between A Medium Firm, Luxury Firm, And Ultra Firm Mattress?

Mattress firmness is measured on a scale from 1 (most soft) to 10 (most firm)—and the right level for you depends on your sleep style and comfort needs. Medium Firm (Big Fig Luxe, 6-7 on the scale) – Offers a balanced feel with cushioning comfort and responsive support. Ideal for side sleepers and those who like a softer surface without sacrificing support. Luxury Firm (Big Fig Classic, 7-8 on the scale) – A “just right” firmness that provides a solid, supportive feel with a touch of plushness. Great for back sleepers, combination sleepers and those who want pressure relief without too much sink. Ultra Firm (Big Fig Firm, 9-10 on the scale) – Our firmest option with a sturdy, no-sink surface. Perfect for stomach sleepers, heavier individuals and those who need extra spinal support. Choosing the right firmness depends on how you sleep, your body type and how much support vs. softness you prefer. Big Fig’s hybrid design ensures durability and comfort—no matter which firmness level you choose. Check out this blog post to learn more.

How Long Do Memory Foam Mattresses Last?

Memory foam mattresses typically last 8 to 10 years, depending on the foam’s density and overall construction. Over time, lower-density foams can break down and lose support, especially under heavier body weight. Big Fig mattresses are engineered differently. Instead of relying on memory foam alone, we build hybrid mattresses using multiple layers of high-density foam combined with hundreds of individually wrapped 15-gauge coils. This structure resists sagging and ensures pressure relief and support over time—far beyond the lifespan of a traditional memory foam mattress. Plus, Big Fig backs every mattress with a Limited Lifetime Warranty, because real support should last.

How Long Should A Typical Mattress Last?

The average inner spring mattress lasts about 5 to 7 years before showing signs of wear, sagging or lack of support. Big Fig mattresses are designed to go the distance. With a hybrid design that blends durable foam layers and reinforced coils, our mattresses are purpose-built for heavier bodies and long-term durability. Unlike standard mattresses that compress or break down under pressure, Big Fig’s hybrid construction delivers stable, spine-aligning support night after night. And with our Limited Lifetime Warranty, you can sleep easier knowing your mattress is made to last.

What Is The Best Mattress For Back Pain And Lower Back Pain?

When it comes to alleviating back pain, it’s important to choose a mattress that offers robust support and promotes proper spinal alignment. Big Fig mattresses stand out as an excellent choice for this purpose. Specifically engineered to support individuals with higher body weight, it combines high-density foam layers with 50% more coils than a standard hybrid mattress. This hybrid construction ensures both durability and the necessary support to maintain spinal alignment, which is essential for reducing back pain. Plus, Big Fig mattresses have received an endorsement from the American Chiropractic Association, so you get expert-approved support and bragging rights next time someone says their mattress is “pretty good.”

Are All The Big Fig Mattress Warranties The Same?

Will A Big Fig Mattress Fit On My Bed?

You can place your Big Fig Mattress on top of any surface, box spring or other that you choose. But to maintain the comfort and integrity of your mattress, especially for plus-sized sleepers, it must be able to evenly and properly support the weight. You do NOT need a foundation if you: Have a platform bed, have a bed frame with a built-in base or wood slats, already have a sturdy foundation that supports at least 1,200 lbs., have an adjustable bed frame or plan to place your mattress directly on the floor. Please refer to the warranty page for specific base requirements

They Love Us. They Really Love Us!

So far this is helping my low back pain nearly every night. I’m very happy with how much cooler this mattress is and with a mattress protector it is super comfy and good for me. I’m older and have lots of spinal and neck issues. I wish I’d jumped on this years ago. I waited too long for the Big Fig.

Sleeping has improved since we got the Big Fig! Much less tossing and turning and we wake up rested. I was delighted to see that the mattress has cloth handles with which to move it. Most other mattress manufactures have cut this feature to make more profit. The Big Fig mattress is top shelf. You can tell by the way it looks and how well you will sleep. Very happy with the purchase and highly recommend it.
